Aim of the Workshop

The aim of the workshop is to provide an informal environment for scientific discussions and exchange of ideas on the open problems and challenges in the World, with the support of Mathematical Modelling, mainly focussed on the following vision:

  • Addressing the challenges posed by Vector Borne and Communicable Diseases
  • Establishing Sustainable Environmental, Health and Social Systems
  • Building a strong workforce in Science Technology and Innovation

The International & Interdisciplinary Workshop on Mathematical Modeling of Environment and Evolution of Social and Life Processes (IIWEE) must attract attention of Scientists and Modelers motivated by the following topics:

  • Epidemiological mathematical modeling
  • Ecology and evolution of infectious and vector borne diseases
  • Sustainable and efficient energy
  • Energy and telecommunication pricing
  • Public health policies and management
  • Sustainable development
  • Bioinformatics and computational biology
  • Environment, risk and vulnerability

Thus scientists from Biology, Medicine, Mathematics, Engineering, Economy, Sociology, Statistics and related areas are very wellcome.

The first IIWEE took place in Arizona State University in Tempe AZ, in 2014. Second IIWEE was held in Villa de Leyva, Colombia in 2015. Quito, Equator was the city chosen for the third IIWEE and the fourth one comes back to Colombia, in Manizales.

The hosting institution is the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Manizales is a medium town (400.000 hab.) in the department of Caldas, close to the Nevados Natural Park. It is in the middle of the so-called Coffee Region. In August, heavy rains are not expected (dry season) but some light showers abound. Temperature will be between 15 C. degrees in the early morning (7am) to 25 C. degrees about midday, dropping again to 18 C. degrees in the afternoon (7pm).
